The First Computer Bug Was a Real Bug
A real moth was found in the Harvard Mark II in 1947 — the origin of the term "computer bug."
On September 9, 1947, engineers working on the Harvard Mark II computer found an actual moth trapped in a relay, causing a malfunction. Grace Hopper's team taped it into the logbook with the note "First actual case of bug being found." The moth is preserved at the Smithsonian Institution to this day.
